Ergo was a second year project where i was briefed to design a a pen that allowed the user to generate an emotional attachment with the product whilst changing the way the pen is viewed as an object. The Ergo pen design uses a flexible rubber encasing a fountain pen nib and has a suction refill function.
Ergo uses its suction refill mechanism to supply
the barrel of the pen with rigidity. When the pen
is filled with ink the barrel holds its pressure and
as the ink is used the pressure is lost in the
barrel allowing the pen stem to slack and droop
over the back off the hand. To refill simply place
the nib into the dock and pump the ink in using
the leaf on the end of the pen.
The Ergo is manufactured in a rubberized
polypropylene which is embossed with a grained
texture to improve comfort in the hand - the root
end of the pen is 3cm in diameter creating a new
writing dynamic whilst increasing accuracy and improving writing flow.
